ARCHIVED ALERT – REFER TO LATEST UPDATES HERE
Location: Argentina
Event: Only sporadic and often last-minute international commercial flight options currently exist in Argentina. U.S. citizens who wish to return to the United States should make commercial arrangements as soon as possible.
There is the possibility of two international flights out of Argentina that may become available this week and next. You should monitor multiple airline websites and consider split tickets on two or more carriers. U.S. citizens are responsible for booking their own travel. As we learn of additional departure opportunities, we will notify registered U.S. citizens through STEP.
The U.S. government will continue to liaise with commercial flight operators on possible flight options, but does not anticipate arranging repatriation flights in Argentina.
U.S. citizens sheltering-in-place should be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. For the provision of medical care, food, shelter, or other needs, you will need to rely on the Argentine system.
We anticipate that any future international charter flights approved by the Argentine government would depart from Buenos Aires. However, please note that the Government of Argentina has implemented additional travel restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19. Only travelers with confirmed international flight reservations may travel from the provinces to the Buenos Aires metropolitan area 24 hours in advance of the flight. If your travel to Buenos Aires will take longer than 24 hours, please email the embassy at buenosaires-acs@state.gov.
Please reference our Embassy webpage on COVID-19 for options and instructions on traveling to Buenos Aires from the provinces.
Travelers should be prepared for additional travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice.
The Embassy is compiling a list of citizens seeking to leave Argentina. If you wish to leave and have not done so already, visit https://ar.usembassy.gov/covid-19, where you will find a list of information to complete and e-mail to the Embassy at the address provided on the same page.
