Location: Argentina
Event: Ethiopian Airlines has announced it will operate flight 507 from Buenos Aires to Sao Paulo, Brazil on Saturday, April 11, from Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza). U.S. citizens interested in departing on this flight will need to book directly with Ethiopian Airlines (https://www.ethiopianairlines.com/ar).
If you need to leave Argentina, you should strongly consider booking this flight, otherwise you should be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. There are direct flights from Sao Paulo to the United States. A split ticket is required, but Ethiopian can check luggage through to the final destination. U.S citizens will need an onward ticket out of Sao Paulo in order to board the Ethiopian flight. U.S. citizens are allowed to transit Sao Paulo, staying in the international terminal.
Please reference our Embassy webpage on COVID-19 for options and instructions on traveling to Buenos Aires from the provinces. The Government of Argentina has implemented additional travel restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19. Only travelers with confirmed international flight reservations may travel from the provinces to the Buenos Aires metropolitan area 24 hours in advance of the flight. If your travel to Buenos Aires will take longer than 24 hours, please email the embassy at buenosaires-acs@state.gov.
Only sporadic and often last-minute international commercial flight options currently exist in Argentina. U.S. citizens who wish to return to the United States should make commercial arrangements as soon as possible.
U.S. citizens are responsible for booking their own travel. As we learn of additional departure opportunities, we will notify registered U.S. citizens through STEP.
U.S. citizens sheltering-in-place should be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period. For the provision of medical care, food, shelter, or other needs, you will need to rely on the Argentine system.
The Embassy is compiling a list of citizens seeking to leave Argentina. If you wish to leave and have not done so already, visit https://ar.usembassy.gov/covid-19, where you will find a list of information to complete and e-mail to the Embassy at the address provided on the same page.
If you have previously applied for a passport or citizenship service, you should expect significant delays receiving your passport and your citizenship evidence documents. For emergency passport services for U.S. citizens abroad, please email buenosaires-acs@state.gov.
Travelers should be prepared for additional travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice.
