Celebrating International Education Week, and at the invitation of Professor Facundo Galvan, Public Affairs Officer Thomas Mesa participated in the presentation by students of the university on Federalism in the United States. The students presented an excellent analysis on the elements of shared and separate powers that exist at the national, state and local levels of government in the United States.
After the presentation, Mr. Mesa spoke on the merits of the presentation and then engaged the students in an hour long discussion, where Mr. Mesa provided examples of how Federalism operates on a daily basis. Mr. Mesa noted in his opening words: “Federalism was born from the desire of our Founding Fathers to safeguard individual liberty and rights and ensure against the emergence of tyrannical government.” There was an additional half-hour of questions and answers on different political and social topics.
