Learn, exchange, grow, and serve. The U.S. Department of State offers many programs for non-U.S. citizens wishing to come to the U.S. for cultural, educational, or professional exchange. These programs are augmented by local opportunities in countries around that world that allow non-U.S. citizens to explore U.S. culture and the English language. Learn more about the opportunities offered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
American education is a complex topic because a single school can draw upon resources from several different public and private institutions. For example, a student may attend a private high school whose curriculum must meet standards set by the state, some of whose science courses may be financed by federal funds, and whose sports teams may play on local, publicly owned fields.
Education is an aspect of U.S. society that is more open, more diverse and more inclusive than ever before in our history. Public education is changing for the better. On the other hand, there is much more to be done to fulfill the American promise of equal opportunity for all and to close the gaps between rich and poor, white and non-white. By continuing to adapt and improve our system of education, the United States can become a stronger nation and continue to work with other nations to bring peace, prosperity and education to citizens throughout the world.
The United States supports international education and welcomes foreign students and exchange visitors. Before applying for a visa, students and exchange visitors must be accepted by their schools or program sponsors.

U.S. National Youth Science Camp Program Youth Ambassadors Program Ambassador Scholarship – Summer Work TravelU.S. National Youth Science Camp Program
This program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, the state of West Virginia and the National Youth Science Foundation, and is aimed at students with high academic achievement who have a demonstrated interest in the sciences.
The Youth Ambassadors Program, an initiative of the U.S. Embassy, in partnership with the organization World Learning, is designed to send outstanding Argentine secondary school students from all over the country to the United States for three weeks to learn about U.S. society and culture and to share Argentina’s culture with people in the United States. Through this exchange program, the Youth Ambassadors will strengthen ties of friendship, improve their English, and also acquire new ideas for community service.
Ambassador Scholarship – Summer Work Travel
Ambassador Scholarship – Summer Work Travel participants travel to the U.S. for up to four months during the Argentine summer vacation dates stipulated by the university. They will be connected with U.S. employers, and will work on seasonal assignments, which will provide them with the opportunity to interact with U.S. colleagues and visitors. Participants will work, live and learn about both U.S. culture and the culture of other international students, sharing daily life experiences.
Friends of Fulbright Scholarship
The program gives Argentine undergraduate students the chance to attend classes at an accredited U.S. university and share the experience of living and studying with students from the United States and other countries. Students will also participate in cultural immersion activities including community service, field trips and seminars.
A network of 13 American spaces are located from the far north west border (Salta) to the southern “end of the world” (Ushuaia). The largest American space, Instituto Cultural Argentino-Norteamericano (ICANA), was established in Buenos Aires in 1927. Today it has an important enrollment of English language students, supports an active student advising program, and is a test center for U.S. university admission exams such as the GRE, GMAT and TOEFL.
Opportunity Scholarship Program
The Opportunity Scholarship Program provides Argentine talented and outstanding students with the opportunity to receive support to apply to universities in the U.S. Argentine students learn about the application process to U.S. universities and familiarize themselves with international admissions exams such as TOEFL, ACT, SAT, and GRE, to take them effectively. The program also provides students with the opportunity to apply for funds to pay for part of their university education in the United States. Each Opportunity student undergoes a selective process of evaluation by an EducationUSA adviser, regional educational advising coordinator (REAC), and the Public Affairs Section of a U.S. Embassy. In addition to academic abilities, Opportunity students bring cultural and socio-economic diversity to U.S. campuses. More than 100 colleges and universities have enrolled Opportunity students since 2006.
