The United States Embassy in Argentina welcomes its newest English Language Fellow, Mathilde Verillaud, to Argentina. Ms. Verillaud will be hosted for ten months by ARICANA, the binational center in Rosario. The English Language Fellow program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Argentina, and designed to provide consultation, training and assistance to the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teaching community in Argentina.
On February 20th, as a part of her introduction to Argentina, Ms. Verillaud was welcomed by Embassy officials, and a group of EFL contacts and alumni of Embassy-funded EFL exchanges programs, including representatives from the Ministry of Education of the City of Buenos Aires, ICANA, Instituto Superior en Lenguas Vivas, and the EFL professional associations, ARTESOL, SHARE and APIBA. The group of invitees provided insight into the EFL environment in Argentina, and underlined the importance of mutual cooperation between among U.S. and Argentine professionals in English language teaching.
Mathilde Verillaud recently finished her second Peace Corps tour as a TEFL volunteer in Ecuador, where she trained high school English teachers and implemented extracurricular clubs promoting leadership and communication skills for high school-aged English language students. Prior to Ecuador, Ms. Verillaud served in China, teaching English and American culture through film and food.
