The Embassy, in cooperation with Alianza Francesa, offered a free and open screening of the film “Chef,” a 2014 American movie inspired by the popularity of food truck culture in the United States. In addition to the screening, 100 attendees had the chance to try a snack prepared by the sight-impaired team from Gallito Ciego, a food truck sponsored by the NGO Audela, which offers employment and training opportunities for the blind.
Before the screening, 18 guests participated in an experience prepared by Gallito Ciego, in which guests feasted on typical American foods and beverages in the dark. The “blind meal” provided a rare opportunity to learn how blind people go about regular activities, such as cooking and eating.
The combined events were a part of El Cine + Cocina, a film festival that celebrates the kitchen and those who make the films it inspires. In its second year, the festival offered films, workshops and recreational and educational activities, as well as unique theme dinners inspired by the films of the festival.
