The 17th annual Argentine Binational Center Academic Directors meeting was hosted by SURICANA in San Rafael, Mendoza on June 22-23, 2017.
During this two day event, participants from 12 of the 13 Argentine Binational Centers shared best practices, exchanged ideas, and discussed challenges they face as English language administrators in the BNCs. Participants were joined by the Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer, Naydeen Gonzalez De Jesus, and Shelynn Riel-Osorio, the English Language Fellow sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, based in AMICANA BNC Mendoza, who served as a consultant and expert on current teaching and assessment methods. ACAO Gonzalez De Jesus opened the meeting and presented on Study USA program and EL Fellow Riel-Osorio gave two training workshops on “Authentic Assessment, and on ¨Professional Development for the BNC teaching staff¨. Other BNC Directors presented and shared their successful stories and best practices. Participants also approved the ECECE (Examination for the Competency of Elementary Competency in English) 2017, which will be administered at all BNCs next November. For this session, they connected via Skype with the English Language Fellow, Trina Goslin, in Cordoba, whose participation added value to the discussion. During the event, the Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to work together with the 13 BNCs– promoting their missions as both English language institutes and centers for the exchange of U.S. and Argentine cultures.
