A group of 25 ICANA (Instituto Argentino Norteamericano) English teachers met with Public Affairs staff to learn about the core elements within the framework of the Access English Microscholarship Program. Discussion topics included community service, English language enhancement activities in the classroom and how to carry out activities which teach American culture. The teachers had the opportunity to share best practices on how to design curriculum and engage students in language learning.
The Access Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and provides a foundation of English language skills to talented 15-17 year-olds in ten cities throughout Argentina. Approximately 100 Argentine students have been awarded the Access scholarship to attend a two-year intensive course which helps them to learn English and more about United States culture and democratic values at the two ICANA locations.
