On Wednesday, June 4th, the U.S. Embassy in Argentina hosted its second “English @ the Embassy” event. Over 150 students, ages 13 to 15, and their teachers from six different schools from the city and greater Buenos Aires attended. The event was also live-streamed to schools and language institutes across Argentina. During the event, both the live and online audiences had the opportunity to engage their language skills with native English speakers from the United States, as well as to learn more about United States culture.
Participants were welcomed by the Chargé d ’Affairs, Mr. Kevin Sullivan, who discussed the importance of English language learning and responded to questions from the students. After the welcome, participants enjoyed an interactive presentation highlighting United States culture through fairs and festivals. They also received a tour of the Bosch Palace, the United States Ambassador’s Residence, from Embassy officers. Special guests, Daniel Politi, Local News Editor at the Buenos Aires Herald, and representatives from the EducationUSA office also spoke to the live audience, talking about the role of English language in journalism, and the opportunities for future study in the United States.
