English@ the Embassy

English@ The Embassy

On Tuesday, April 26, 2016 the U.S. Embassy in Argentina hosted an event called “English @ the Embassy”. One hundred and twenty students, ages 13 to 15 with intermediate English language levels, and their teachers from six different schools from the city and greater Buenos Aires attended.  During the event, audiences had the opportunity to engage their language skills with native English speakers from the United States, as well as to learn more about United States culture.

Participants were welcomed by the Public Affairs Counselor, Thomas Mesa, who discussed the importance of English language learning  and the cooperative efforts of Argentina and the United States. An active question and answer session ensued.  After the welcome, the participants enjoyed an interactive presentation highlighting United States culture through fairs and festivals by the Cultural Affairs Officer, a presentation from the EducationUSA representative who spoke about opportunities for future study in the United States and a short presentation about eLibraries from the embassy’s Information Resource Officer. The event concluded with a tour of the historic Bosch Palace, the United States Ambassador’s Residence, conducted by Embassy officers.
