Allied Alums is a year-long mentorship program pairing professional exchange program Alumni with youth program Alumni in the cities of Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Salta. This is an opportunity for professional exchange alumni to volunteer and make an impact in their communities within the capital and in the interior of Argentina. For younger alumni, the program will allow them to build upon their enriching experiences in Embassy programs. Mentors and mentees pairing was based on their career and study paths and common interests. They will be expected to meet together one-on-one at least once per month. Mentors will offer practical advice for their mentees’ career and studies, forming a relationship and support net for the youth.
On August 26, the Embassy hosted the first encounter of mentors and mentees in Buenos Aires. The purpose of this meeting was to give them an outline about what to expect as a mentor and as a mentee and to explain the importance of mentorship. To help us with this, two specialists from Vital Voices spoke to the mentees and mentors separately. In order to include the groups from Córdoba and Salta, meetings were live streamed via Google Hangout. After each presentation, the group came together for two icebreakers organized by the Lead Mentor in Buenos Aires.
