ARCHIVED ALERT – REFER TO LATEST UPDATES HERE

Location:  Argentina

Event:  The remaining commercial flight options for departing Argentina are extremely limited. Due to the difficulties in traveling from the provinces to Buenos Aires in time for any potential international flight, the U.S. Embassy encourages all U.S. citizens remaining in the provinces who want to depart Argentina to consider traveling to Buenos Aires as soon as possible; however, please be aware that we do not have future confirmed flight availability. We anticipate that any future charters flights approved by the Argentine government will depart from Buenos Aires. We are engaging with the Argentine government on future flights and will communicate that information as soon as it is available.

For those U.S. citizens traveling on tomorrow’s Eastern Airlines flight:

  • Give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport, there are several checkpoints along the way.
  • Don’t forget to carry your U.S. passport, your confirmed international airline ticket, and the Embassy Letter and Ministry Note found on the Embassy’s webpage: https://ar.usembassy.gov/covid-19/.
  • The airline will be processing many passengers: be prepared to wait in line!
  • Bring snacks or drinks: the airport restaurants and coffee shops are closed.

In the United States, passengers may be subject to CDC screening, health observation, and monitoring requirements upon reentry to the United States.  For additional questions, visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 Information for Travel page.

If you are outside of the Buenos Aires metro area, follow the instructions on the Embassy’s webpage on COVID-19 under “Travelers Still in Outer Provinces/Travel to Buenos Aires.” If you were unable to use these options, please contact us immediately at buenosaires-acs@state.gov. In the subject line of your e-mail, please write “Provincial Travel” and explain in detail which of the options/instructions did not work for you.

The Government of Argentina extended the national quarantine that began on March 20 through April 12. Argentine authorities may extend the quarantine. Limited quarantine exemptions include movement to obtain food and medical care and travel to the international airport for ticketed passengers only.

International flights coming from multiple countries, including the United States, are suspended until April 15; however, most airlines have extended their suspensions into May. If you believe you have an international flight out of Buenos Aires in April, please call your airline to confirm.

If you have not done so already, the Embassy is compiling a list of citizens seeking to leave Argentina. Visit https://ar.usembassy.gov/covid-19, where you will find a list of information to complete and e-mail to the Embassy at the address provided on the same page. We are responding to individuals who contact us with specific options and ideas for how to travel from each province.

As we learn of additional departure opportunities, we will notify registered U.S. citizens through STEP.
