Location: Argentina
Event: The Government of Argentina announced that the national quarantine that began on March 20 has been extended through April 12. Argentine authorities may extend such period of time. Limited quarantine exemptions include movement to obtain food and medical care and travel to the international airport for ticketed passengers only. The Argentine government also announced an additional permission requirement for Argentine drivers (information on our webpage).
Buy now! There are still seats remaining on the Eastern Airlines flight from Buenos Aires to Miami, Florida on the morning of Thursday, April 2, at 9:30 a.m. from Ministro Pistarini International Airport (Ezeiza). (This represents a schedule change from the earlier announcement that the flight would depart on March 31 to allow for more U.S. citizens to travel to Buenos Aires from the provinces for the flight.) Please monitor https://goeasternair.com for the latest information on the flight and ticket availability. U.S. citizens interested in departing on this flight will need to book directly with Eastern Airlines. The flight is subject to change.
If you are located in the provinces, you are allowed to travel overland to Buenos Aires. Please read the Embassy’s webpage on COVID-19 for options and instructions for doing so, including (1) how to obtain the three required travel letters, (2) how to obtain special provincial permissions, (3) how to obtain permission for a third-party driver, (4) a list of transportation options, and (5) hotels in Buenos Aires that remain open.
If you have not done so already, the Embassy is compiling a list of citizens seeking to leave Argentina. You must visit https://ar.usembassy.gov/covid-19, where you will find a list of information to complete and e-mail to the Embassy at the address provided on the same page. We are responding to individuals who contact us with specific options and ideas for how to travel from each province.
At this time, the Eastern Air flight is the only direct way to travel between Argentina and the United States. The Embassy cannot guarantee future availability of these special flights. If you need to leave Argentina, you should book this flight, otherwise you should be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.
International flights coming from multiple countries, including the United States, are suspended until April 15; however, most airlines have extended their suspensions into May. If you believe you have an international flight out of Buenos Aires in April, please call your airline to confirm.
Routine consular services at U.S. Embassy Buenos Aires will be suspended through the end of the national quarantine period. For emergency American Citizens Services, including emergency passports, please email buenosaires-acs@state.gov.
As we have additional information on departure opportunities, we will notify registered U.S. citizens through STEP.
