Traditionally, the incidence of burglaries, thefts and robberies increases during the holiday season. Terrorists, including “lone wolf”–style attackers, also have a tendency to attack on significant dates, to include religious and other holidays. We recommend that U.S. citizens stay vigilant and immediately report anything suspicious to local police. If you are traveling for the holidays, be careful of disclosing travel plans to others, including on social media. Ask a trusted friend or neighbor to check on your home occasionally, making sure it maintains a lived-in appearance.
The Embassy wishes you and yours a happy and safe holiday season!

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Argentina enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you don’t have Internet access, enroll directly with the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.
Regularly monitor the State Department’s website, where you can find current Travel Warnings, Travel Alerts, and the Worldwide Caution. Read the Country Specific Information for Argentina. For additional information, refer to the Traveler’s Checklist on the State Department’s website.
