BUENOS AIRES – On December 1, 2022, the United States and Argentina concluded the third meeting under the U.S. – Argentina Trade and Investment Framework (TIFA). The meeting was chaired by Daniel Watson, Assistant United States Trade Representative for the Western Hemisphere, and the Undersecretary for Multilateral and Bilateral Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of Argentina (MRECIC), Ambassador Ramiro Ordoqui. The United States Ambassador to Argentina, Marc Stanley, and the Secretary of International Economic Relations of the MRECIC, Ambassador Cecilia Todesca Bocco, participated in the opening of the meeting. Each side was accompanied by a broad interagency team, including the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of State, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture and representatives of the Ministries of Economy, Foreign Affairs, and the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of Argentina.

The meeting covered a wide range of bilateral trade and investment issues, including trade concerns on each side. As a result, both parties agreed to work together on a roadmap to resolve these concerns and improve our trade relationship. They also explored emerging investment opportunities and areas for engagement, including energy transition and digital economy, as well as development finance.

The officials agreed on the importance of shared values, including high labor standards, environmental sustainability, and inclusion, as a basis for strengthening and developing regional supply chains. Officials also discussed the importance of the Declaration on Good Regulatory Practices issued during the June 2022 Summit of the Americas, which both countries joined.

The officials also took note of the agenda of the Forum on Innovation and Creativity for Economic Development, which convenes its seventh meeting from December 6-7 in Buenos Aires.

The United States and Argentina look forward to continuing a constructive and open engagement under the TIFA, with a view to strengthening bilateral and economic ties for mutual benefit.

The two countries agreed to deepen engagement with a view to convening the next meeting of the TIFA Council in Washington in 2023.
