Appointments & Locations

The business hours of the Consular Section are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding Argentine and American holidays.  However, access to the Consular Section is by appointment only.

The Embassy of the United States in Buenos Aires is located on Avenida Colombia 4300, Buenos Aires City.

Payment Methods & Details

Exchange Rate:  The Consular Exchange rate is USD 1: Pesos 270, effective May 15

Fees:

  • Passport DS-11 Adult: USD 165
  • Passport DS-11 Minor: USD 135
  • Passport DS-82 Renewal: USD 130
  • CRBA: USD 100
  • Notarial Service: USD 50 per each notary seal

Payment may be made in cash (dollars/pesos) or by an international credit card (the amount charged will be in USD). We cannot accept payment by mail. Payments are done at the Embassy the day of the appointment. If you pay with an Argentine-issued credit card, note that the Government of Argentina currently imposes additional taxes on foreign transactions.

Note: Unfortunately we cannot accept defaced, soiled, marked, or torn dollar bills

Passport Delivery

Passports are only delivered via DHL

Applicants for U.S. passports are required to purchase a DHL waybill at one of the following DHL stores. Only one waybill per family is required to ship U.S. passports.

Note: Family members or trusted friends may purchase the DHL waybill on the applicant’s behalf, but the waybill must contain the applicant’s name, as listed in the applicant’s U.S. passport.

Security Information

Every person visiting the Embassy must agree to a security screening before entering the Consular Section with their belongings.

Applicants will not be allowed to enter the Embassy with the following items:

  • Weapons or any element that could be used as a weapon, including knives, metallic files, nail clippers, scissors, etc.
  • Electronic devices (mobile phones, cameras, laptops, tablets, USBs, cables, remote controls, remote access keys or other electronic equipment) with the exception of medical devices.
  • Liquids and/or flammable items, including sodas, perfume, lighters, matches, etc.
  • Purses or bags measuring 20 x 15 x 10cm or more (smaller purses are allowed)
  • Packages, bags, backpacks, briefcases, suitcases
  • Drugs, narcotics or any illegal substance, as well as medicines without a prescription

Reasonable Accommodation

If you need reasonable accommodation for your appointment, we encourage you to request your accommodation immediately once you schedule your appointment. We make every effort to provide accommodations to persons with disabilities and medical conditions. Reasonable accommodations vary, depending on the situation and the person’s needs.

Examples of accommodations include, but are not limited to:

    • If you require a private appointment due to a medical condition or disability, we may schedule an alternative time for you to come in for your interview.
    • If you or your child has special needs that requires a private appointment in a quiet space without distractions, we may schedule an alternative time for you or your family to come in for your interview.
    • If you are unable to speak, you may be allowed to respond to questions in an agreed-upon nonverbal manner such as using pen and paper.
    • If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you may bring a sign language interpreter to translate during the interview if needed.
    • If you have low vision, we may provide you with communications in large print.

If you are unable to provide fingerprints because of a medical condition, including birth defects, physical deformities, skin conditions, you may qualify for a fingerprint waiver for certain fingers.

Interview waivers are only granted in extreme situations, such as having a medical condition that requires flying in an air ambulance.
