Seth McBride and Kelly Schwan received the award today for their work in the international promotion of inclusion for disabled persons in sports — transcending linguistic, cultural and social barriers.
The Long Road South is a handcycle/bicycle expedition unlike any attempted before. They rode unsupported from Portland, Oregon to Patagonia, Argentina to raise awareness of the importance of sport and physical activity for all.
Seth and Kelly’s journey support the U.S. Department of State’s global promotion of practices that respect diversity regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, race, sexual orientation, or disability; and recognition that persons with disabilities have the same rights as non-disabled persons and must be provided access, opportunity, inclusion, and full participation on an equal basis with others.
