The U.S. Embassy at the 44th Edition of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair

The U.S. Embassy will be hosting a booth with a wide variety of activities at the 44th Edition of the Buenos Aires International Book Fair to be held from April 26 to May 14.

This year our theme is Connectivity, to highlight the capacity of global societies to connect through their cultures, economic development and technological innovations.

Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in different presentations and activities meant for adults and children, related to literature, learning through science and technology as well as Embassy programs, among other topics. Through our new Wi-Fi hotspot, visitors will be able to use their own devices to learn about our program of activities at the fair, visas, U.S. studies, scholarships, and much more.

This year, two acclaimed American writers, Richard Ford and Dan Wells are our special guests, and we will be celebrating U.S. Day with a performance by the Argentina Gospel Choir.

Our booth (number 1711) will be located at the Yellow Pavilion, 35 Street.

Richard Ford, winner of the Pulitzer Prize in the category of “Fiction” and the Princess of Asturias Award, among other outstanding recognitions, will be our first special guest at the Fair. His presentation will take place on Saturday April 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Julio Cortázar Room, Yellow Pavilion.

Dan Wells, acclaimed young adult fiction author is returning as our special guest at the Fair. The author of Partials Sequence Series and Mirador series will talk with his readers on Saturday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the José Hernández Room, Red Pavilion.

On Sunday, May 6, we will celebrate U.S. Day at the Fair with various activities, including a performance by the Argentina Gospel Choir at 8:30 p.m. in the José Hernández Room, Red Pavilion.

On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, our booth will offer a makerspace by Infinito por Descubrir (Argentina’s Ministry of Education), for everybody to learn, create, and innovate through science and technology using virtual reality, robotics and laser technology. The program also includes the art, robotics and sound workshops, as well as coding sessions by members of the Club Chicas Programadoras.

Our rich program will include presentations by American and Argentine writers as well as students from the University of New York program in Buenos Aires. Poetry will also be present in the form of a Poetry Slam, where the audience will choose the winners, and a poetry reading session devoted to the Earth will be held in English and Spanish. To promote connectivity – our theme for this year — we will host an exchange of books at our booth as well.

Our program will include activities related to young adult literature like charlas by well-known bloggers and booktubers about latest trends, literature and cinema, classics and much more.

As Argentine-U.S. Binational Centers are key players to increase connections between our two countries, this year we are celebrating the Binational Centers’ Day, with the participation of ICANA and other centers.

In addition, Embassy officers will give presentations on visas, tourism to the United States, and the Summer Work and Travel program. Education advisors will present on study opportunities and scholarships, and Embassy program participants will talk about their study exchange experiences.

We will have activities for all tastes and ages. Come visit us!
