On Saturday, October 28, 2017, students of English from around the country converged on Buenos Aires for the 6th Annual Argentina TESOL Spelling Bee. Board members of the Argentina Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ARTESOL), all of whom are prominent educators along with U.S. Embassy Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer, Dr. Naydeen Gonzalez De Jesus, served as a judge in the annual ARTESOL Spelling Bee, a national spelling competition for non-native English speaking students under the age of 15. The ARTESOL organized event took place at the Centro Cultural Borges in Buenos Aires. It included 50 students from 9 schools from throughout Argentina.
The first place winner was Bautista Estrada from the Nueva Escuela Argentina 2000, City of Buenos Aires and the second place winner was Ivan Filizzola, from Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires. Students and participating schools received prizes, courtesy of ARTESOL, the Embassy and other event sponsors.
